What Has Happened To Dignity?
“Senator...Graham.” A pause of silence, Kavanaugh takes a sniff. The crackle and bounce of Senator Lindsey Graham's microphone ejects into the stark, menacing hall of the Judiciary Committee.
And then what proceed was an angry bellow, a monster had taken the man out of Lindsey Graham, he lost all professionalism and poise, sweat glistened and sprang deep from within his pores, his forehead scrunched and his finger flew from side to side, tensing every moving, working, functioning muscle that he possessed as he teetered on the edge of explosion and profanity, and the feedback on the microphone caught every panting breath, and with a glisten and glare in his eye he stared down every Democrat that there was in that committee room with so much anger, Washington might have just crumbled under his feet. His actions: Abhorrent.
“If you wanted an FBI investigation...you want to destroy this guys life...and hope you win in 2020...you’ve said that...When you see Sotomayor and Kagan, tell them I said hello, cause’ I voted for them, I would never do to them what you have done to this guy...the most unethical sham, since I’ve been in politics.” As Graham brought himself to, Americans collectively exhaled, some in relief and some in disgust.
What happened to respect? What happened to professionalism? What happened to dignity? The trained eye can read the subtext of political plugs and pressers that lie in the roots of partisanship, but the average American can stare right into their TV screen and see the s***show that Lindsey Graham unleashed and wonder if they were still watching C-SPAN. There might be another essay set aside for the actions of Brett Kavanaugh, but the one minute, and twenty-four seconds that Graham took to pop every vein and artery that swam through his body, is the same time it took me to realize that the desire to work in my government isn’t as prestigious as I would have thought. Kavanaugh is going to serve our country - no doubt, the Senate will most likely not flip, and the respect of the Highest Law of the Land deserves all the time and deliberation in the world because he will serve our country. He will serve for life. So I might ask again, Senator Graham, what happened to your dignity?
